The 9 attitudes of Highly Creative people.
Originally by Darren Rowse with additions from myself.
1. Curiosity
Learning to ask ‘why’, ‘what if’ and ‘I wonder…’ are great questions t build into your life if you want to be a more creative person.
2. Seeing Problems as Interesting and Acceptable
One of the problems of the Western mindset is that we often see problems or obstacles in life as unacceptable parts of life. We avoid pain or suppress it when it comes and in doing so don’t often see and feel symptoms that are there to tell us something important. Creative people see problems as a natural and normal part of life – in fact they often have a fascination with problems and are drawn to them.
From an asian perspective, it is very frequent that our elders, (parents, peers, teachers and bosses) set restrictions on our capability. It is too often that we hear the word “cannot” instead of “thats a good idea”. I attribute this to the fact that 20 years ago, life was difficult and we were raised to be practical people. From young, i was told to get a stable job, to earn enough to provide for my family. Hobbies that me and my bro were interested in from young always had a barrier to restrict growth put around it. Same thing when i took up drumming, my own parents already told me that it would not be pratical as a career. So im sticking to Web Development for my cyber ricebowl.
Many others reason this as the pyramid game. Only cream of the crop, those right on top, will pull through.
3. Confronting Challenge
Many of the most creative ideas through out history have come from people facing a challenge or crisis and rather than running from it asking ‘how can I overcome this’?
